Hello my children,

I have just had about 3 months off writing and getting my opinion out there to the people that read it. Honestly, I'm not too sure why. It might be the overwhelming factors regarding how many people I get through to or what constantly occurs in mainstream media - after many long months of media scrutiny, I needed a longer than normal break, to clear my head and get back onto the band wagon. It's tough working 9 to 5 and trying to write 1000 words of over-opinionated "fuck yous" to anything worth writing about.

So Media Watch, get off you lazy arses and get back to work - that means you Jonathan Holmes.

Naaa I'm just kidding, you're ok.

So...the NDAA huh?

From what I know, and what I've been reading, the NDAA or 'National Defense Authorization Act' gives power to the military to detain, indefinitely (for as long as they want) any US citizen suspected of being a terrorist, without a warrant and figure out if terrorizing is their profession *cough* WATER TORTURE IS TORTURE *cough* - it essentially cancels out all their rights they have as US citizens.

Now Obama, in a White House press statement, acknowledges the fact that he doesn't agree with the whole bill affirming that:

"I have signed this bill despite having serious reservations with certain provisions that regulate the detention, interrogation, and prosecution of suspected terrorists."

and

"I want to clarify that my Administration will not authorize the indefinite military detention without trial of American citizens. Indeed, I believe that doing so would break with our most important traditions and values as a Nation."

Nice save huh?

So he signs the bill anyway on the 31st of December, when everyone was too drunk to care or even remember anything. It's a bit like introducing a new gun law so everyone can have gun, acknowledging the fact that guns kill people, but signing it in anyway. Why sign a bill you don't entirely agree with? Here are some possible terrorist suspects below:

What's stranger is how mainstream media seems to be avoiding the whole issue like the plague. It's still early days though...

Angry Rant #46: "Oh yeah, I wonder how all those people are going..."

Do you remember...

The Christchurch earthquake?
The tsunami in South-East Asia?
The Japanese quake AND Tsunami?

Are you aware that 750,000 people could die from starvation in East Africa in the next two months?

It's easy to forget these disasters that killed and are still killing thousands upon thousands of people, when mainstream media avoids it like the proverbial plague. Journalists sit around in their offices, waiting for the next press release to come in from AAP or Reuters or some other news wire, waiting for something to write about.

They think to themselves - "Should I write about death and destruction in a world full of it or do I report on the birth of a new baby Elephant at Taronga Zoo?" What do they classify as news and how do they find out what people want to read about?

Hmmm...

I know that I regularly hack on the media for a lot of different things - from beefing up news stories, to just plainly making shit up or shameless plugging something. Now, don't think that this is turning into some sappy "I have changed my views on the media" because I haven't - if anything, I'm more disgraced by what they do. I more disgraced by the fact that the media industry is seen as a business, compared to something that actually informs the public - and doesn't try to sell them anything.

Now bear with me here!

I completely understand that the media industry is a business. Journalists write because they enjoy what they do, but also because they need to money to live - even if that means doing something or writing something that don't completely agree with.

Except Peter Overton - he's just a plain ol' fucktard.

I also understand that the media industry believes that for something to be "news" it needs to be "new". But because the media industry has such a large influence over what the people think, I can't help but get worked up when I see "news" programs trying to sell me something or when they misinform people.

You might be wondering why I'm writing this today and honesty, it wasn't because I saw something in the news today that reminded me of those natural disasters, but because the "anniversary" of 9/11 is coming up and I keep hearing it being described as the "World's Greatest Tragedy".

Let's not forget, in a world full of Americanization, the MLB is called the
"World Series".

I very much doubt there will ever be a "10th Anniversary" for the Japanese Tsunami. It's just a thought I've been having, take it as you will.

Angry Rant #46: AGAIN with the beef.

And....we're rolling.

It's seems mainstream media hasn't changed in my month off. The media still spins things blindly out of proportion in an effort to keep viewers watching and their sponsors happy - not to mention all of the advertising that occurs in their12-hour coverage - think Jessica Watson and her boat.

Channel Nine Reporter: "So...how's the weather?"
Jessica: "It's ok, but let's not rock the boat."... (crickets)

When it comes bomb threats, you know there are going to be helicopters buzzing around the joint all trying to catch a glimpse of that first explosion - trying to get a those perfect pictures. If someone is acting erratically the media feels that it's up to them to try and figure out why - even if that why only comes down to two options:

Extremist Muslim
Bomb threat.

So when it comes to the crazy guy running around Parramatta acting..well...crazy, you have to wonder why exactly he's doing it. That's the first thing - not, "the guy has a bomb" even when police haven't confirmed that it even was a bomb threat or even if he has someone hostage!! They jump to conclusions, they write provocative headlines and they lie to their readers and viewers.

Meanwhile, fat news directors sitting in their expensive leather arms chairs add fuel to the fire by adding eye witness accounts of people on the street and turning what they think is going on into Fact. They sit there and scream...

Angry Rant #45: Skinny, as she goes.

Alex Perry came out today in quite some style - accusing an 18-year-old girl of being "over-stuffed luggage."

I've said it before and I'll say it again - ANYONE who works in the industry and is so obsessed with body image is a disgrace. Alex Perry needs to take a very long walk off a very short plank in pit of fire from which he can burn for thinking that he alone can judge what looks good and what doesn't, all the while filing the minds of young women in this country with the idea that being thin isn't thin enough.

I look at the picture of this girl above and I try to understand what he thinks his idea of perfection is. In fact, his idea of perfection DOESN'T exist. He's constructed this idea within his own mind based on years upon years of manipulation by a sexually driven media and advertising industry. What exactly does this Perry filth deem to be attractive? Do women with their bones showing acting like walking clothes hangers do it for him? Women in this day and age are used to sell goods - they are not seen as women, but as tools to line the pockets of rich CEO's and self-obsessed fashion designers.

I say women, not models, because the idea that being skinny and flaunting their sexuality is not just something limited to the catwalk. Young women take on his perceptions of what women should look like and, in turn, try to be like the models portrayed by buying the same expensive clothes and trying emulate everything that they do - including being overtly thin.

Here's one prick I'd be happy to hear that dies a horrible fiery death tomorrow

So how do we change this? Stop buying clothing labelled with his name? Voice our opinion on blogs or his websites? Protest an his fashion shows? He did apparently tweet his apology saying that her "posing skills" where like "over-stuffed luggage" and that his insults had nothing to do with her weight.

Ha.

Nice try.

I guess it's a hard issue to combat when even the leading women's magazines in this country are just as focused on how thin women are and creating perfection where it doesn't exist. It's difficult to combat when the person on the front cover of their magazine is seen as item of clothing.

My thoughts on the issue? Boycott this pathetic excuse for human being and hope his next plane ride has a lot turbulence. Women should be treated like human beings - and not like this.

I can not, and will not ever be able to comprehend what some people can justify as "right". If you can murder, discriminate and hurt others in the name of an imaginary man who created the world and himself, then you must be smoking crack. It will never be clear to we atheists, what can possibly make somebody believe a nonsense story about walking on water or a story about a man who lived in a whale. Honestly? And to use this story to justify immoral acts, and to 'kick out' somebody who tried to make a stand..... What can we say? What can we do, when a large fraction of the world is delusional?

If you call yourself a Christian how can you say that you don't tolerate prejudice, hate, inequality, when the very foundations of christianity (the bible) features so many incidents including these elements?

I dont understand it. But I do however, understand, that when people such as Peter Kennedy are "kicked out" they must be doing something good (see the SMH story HERE) There is NO evidence for religion, but you can't talk to some of these people when their minds are so corrupted because they won't see reasoning - and that's a fact!

I'm not going to try and change your opinion, because there will simply be no changing mine.

You might have seen that story that went buzzing around a little earlier today about that Catholic Priest, Father Peter Kennedy who was dismissed from the church back in 2009 for among other things, feeling that men and women should be equal. The other things include, calling the story of Jesus a "fable" and blessing same-sex marriage.

So here is person who believes that everyone, no matter what sex you are or race, says people should be equal. So why do other idiot Christians like Fred Nile (Christian Version of muslim extremist) get away with saying that Islam is immoral when their own religion does the same thing? Then, they cut those out of the picture that say otherwise?

I wonder how much longer it will take for these people to finally wake up to themselves and truly see the world through their own eyes and not distorted by the words of some misogynistic, contradictory, anti-democratic story written by a bunch of power-hungry men who wanted more control.

Kennedy makes a pretty valid point however - if God is some all powerful being, can do everything and knows how we think, then why did he CHOOSE not to save the lives of innocent children? If all life is sacred, then why did he allow kids to be shot up and left to bleed to death under his so called control?

If you believe in God and believe that some "all powerful being" controls your life, then you, just to put it bluntly, are a fool. Your mind has been played with - seeing the world to you must be like trying to focus on your hand underwater - I feel sorry for you - and I stand by this.

Any group, person, being or whatever other collective that promotes inequality and violence in return for "salvation" is morally wrong. Religion in all of its many shapes and forms is just simply wrong. You want to be good person? Become an atheist and treat everyone with respect and equality that they deserve.

...and lets not forget that Anders Behring Breivik, the man who murdered 76 people over the weekend in Norway was also a Christian and did it because hates Islam.

Angry Rant #43: We can't swim today, the water's too wet.

With the anti-smoking lobby’s jumping for joy over their recent victories in the smoking industry and the failure that will be the plain packaging, a “voluntary industry scheme” by the Alcohol industry will from now on put warning labels on their products.

What company in their right mind would try to actively discourage you from consuming their product? They’re trying to make people drink healthier? That’s what it’s being spun as it’s not in any way trying to reduce the amount of alcohol consumed in this country because that would be impossible. If anything, it will encourage younger people to drink.

The keyword that keeps hitting me in the face is “voluntary”. I mean who is sucking whose dick here? What possible motives would the alcohol industry in Australia have behind such a venture, because the labels will only affect local beers, so your binge of Coronas with lemon at the end of the month will be untouched. It’s interesting to note also that when it comes to the topic of smoking, there have been no studies proving that warning labels actually stop people from doing it. In fact, it has encouraged cheaper, more toxic cigarette imports to be sold in the country because it’s easier to produce the plain packaging. According to a study released by Deloitte, 1 in 12 cigarettes is a cheap import and isn’t subject to the strict guidelines that we have here. When it comes to the warning label on alcohol itself, what person would even read it? And why? It can’t possibly be targeted at adults because it won’t stop us from drinking and it can’t be targeted at children because they don’t read anything! It’s failure in its most pure form.

As opposed to pure WIN.

Perhaps the dictatorship that runs this country is to blame. Anti-smoking lobbies “pressured” the government into the new cigarette laws, but who’s to say that it wasn’t a push from some fascist Nazi? What if this push is being backed by some power behind the curtain? There’s already a filter in place on our internet that stops us viewing whatever websites the government CHOOSES and doesn’t tell us what they are - Google “Australian Internet Filter” and see how many results you get that are relevant.

We live in a society that is ripping itself a part through censorship and fear. A walk through Sydney will show you this with its many, many security cameras at every intersection tracking our every move and watching people latch onto their bags when they pass a group of “Muslims” because they think they’re going to blow you up or beat you up an take all of your belongings.

It’s mostly due to constant media and political spin, it seems that we are not able to care for ourselves so someone must do it for us. Someone must tell us that speeding is dangerous so revenue raising and accident-causing cameras can be installed. Someone has to tell us sitting down, breathing or simply existing will give us cancer and that apparently thinking too much can actually give you wrinkles.

Ahe ha! Ahe ha!

So what does the future hold for this country controlled by power-hungry elites who are only focused on their own personal gain? Your guess is as good as mine - maybe blogs like this will be taken down and the people behind the prosecuted for their beliefs.

So who is your preferred Prime Minister?

That's the big question that's been going around today and has been answered by yet another pole. Abbott the Idiot Christian or the pigeon-like, backstabbing Julia bitch-face?

Preferred Prime Minister? What were these people smoking? And WHO the hell were they? What types of people voted? Were they people who shamelessly supported the liberal party? That's the only way something as awful as this could actually happen.

"The Survey" is never a true representation of what people think. A select group of people can not truly express the viewpoint of an entire nation.

Take this analogy for example: You have a box full of 50 blue marbles and 50 red marbles. You ask 3 people to each pull 10 marbles out. By freak chance, 30 red marbles are pulled out - so does this mean that the box only contains red marbles? Of course not - it just means that none of the blue marbles where chosen.

WAIT!! I LOST COUNT!

Whenever I see a news poll or a survey that works in the same way, I can't help but scrutinize how the result came to be. You never hear of the type of person who voted or what their current situation is, or under what conditions they voted in. I don't believe that Australian's prefer Tony Abbott as Prime Minister.

Who's to say they didn't just keep refreshing the browser?
Maybe that select group of people just hate him less and wouldn't necessarily vote for him compared TO the pigeon lady, but no, stupid mainstream media seems to think that Australians prefer Tony Abbott as Prime Minister.

What's even worse is the kind of influence a poll like this (not the girls above you pervert) can have. If people think that Abbott and the Liberals will win the next election because everyone A.K.A that "tiny group of people in the poll" says so, what's to stop them? That's exactly what happened with the NSW State Elections - people hated on the Kristina Keneally and Labor Party and people just listened and voted (not that that was a bad thing, but I'm just using it to illustrate my point).

So it's done. Telstra and Optus, the two largest Telcos in Australia will start blanketing us in censorship next month. Firstly starting with Child Pornography, then will probably escalate to censor such things such as euthanasia and abortion because our extremist Christian leaders feel that because they believe in God, they feel it up to them to tell the masses what's good and what's bad - in fact, they think it's their God-given right to tell us how to think.

Censorship in Australia WILL NOT WORK.

How can these people, who aren't even elected by the masses, get into power and start spitting ideas around like this? The fuck head in question is this prick:

The internet "filter" and the censorship minister in charge are trying to prevent Children from accessing what he feels is "unwanted" on the internet. That's his view. He thinks that we are all children and that we need someone to take care of our internet privileges. Lets get one thing straight. I don't give care what you believe in. I couldn't less. I means so little to me that I even find it even hard to write. Believe in Jesus, believe in God, or Buddha, or Mohammed or little green aliens who came down and gave power to humanity - whatever you want. Just keep that shit yourselves.

We have seen what happens when religious people get into power - just look at Iran. These religious fascists get control of things, in the case, the entire internet, and can block things that they and their archaic religion don't believe in or whatever isn't in their best interests.

When it comes to the censor itself, it's an even greater fail than he is. I've been running about my soon-to-be censored internet, getting the opinions of tech gurus and I've gathered the following points:

The filter will block URLs only and not websites - change the URL and the site becomes free to view.
We won't know what's being filtered (unless someone from Hungry Beast goes undercover.)
The criteria for which websites will be compared to, will also be kept a secret.
Discussions about P2P filtering is also under way
Internet speed will plummet.
Telstra, Optus and two major ISPs (most likely TPG and iiNet) will start the roll out so this will effect essentially everyone and there is nothing at this stage that can be done to stop them from doing it.

Jennifer Dudley-Nicholson is a journalist for the Courier Mail in Brisbane who raged about the censorship here. In the last piece of the article she uses the term "slippery slope" in regards to the filter being implemented - meaning there is a possibility for it to slide in the general direction of China. Obviously, this if far off, but now that the hard part for them is over, they can censor whatever they want, whenever they can, without anyone ever having to know!

Angry Rant #40: Someone's all shaken up...

I had a conversation with someone close to me a few days ago that really got me thinking. It was about the recent earthquake in Christchurch which happened a couple of days ago, in fact it was two small 4.5 and 5 magnitude quakes. The conversation was pretty minimal, but the words that were used by that person were these ones "...something's happening."

Read it again. Something's happening.

OH SHIT!

Actually, what happened was an earthquake in a part of the world that always has earthquakes. Continental and Oceanic plates caress each other until one has had enough and punches the other brutally in the face. This is what happened when the big one hit Christchurch in February and it happened with the Japanese Quake and Tsunami, with Haiti, with Chile or anywhere else on this planet where people live in these hot zones, and someone now thinks we're all going to die because the extreme natural disasters keep on occurring.

Just in this month of June alone, there has been 53 recorded earthquakes with a magnitude of 3 and up. That's 14 single earthquakes just this week and 954 earthquakes since the start of this year.

Years gone by, it has been exactly the same.

So, "something's happening" is it? Is it? What is it?

Under out feet isn't solid mass - currents of molten rock continually move and spin causing the relatively thin tectonic plates to shift and volcanoes to unleash their rage - that's what happened with Mt Vesuvius and with Krakatoa and they went crazy hundreds of fucking years ago and killed everyone.

So what's changed significantly enough for someone to say that "something's happening"? Two things:

1. Population growth
2. A mainstream media that feeds off fear.
3. Christian Extremists/2012 bullshit

Now of course, the end of the world hasn't just been predicted by these two groups, but every other religious group on this planet that is hellbent on seeing it be destroyed. When I talk about mainstream media, I'm sure that if there was a camera crew and some wanker that looked like Peter Overton present when Mt Vesuvius blew it's face off, no doubt that they would use it to spread fear and anxiety and churn out "End of the World" nonsense faster than you can say 'money'.

I also couldn't help but notice the slight religious connotation that the "...something's happening" line had. So are you trying to say that God is behind it? Is he going to punish us for all our sins? I guess it's tough to argue with someone who believes that Noah built an ark and recused two of every animal...

Angry Rant #39: Shock, Horror.

Top news story of the week - "Dedicated Soldier, Husband and Father, dies fighting for his mates in a country that he shouldn't be in fighting for a cause that I don't even think he knows about after being told that if he doesn't, we'll be left screwed when we get invaded by North Korea."

Royally Screwed.

It's a different view, I'll give you that much, but it's not a view that's ever discussed. Wayne Swan even came out in the statement to the media and said "we're staying", in reference to the death of another soldier - but they died because they were told to go and fight. The Government are the ones who promote joining the army as something that is noble and patriotic when really it's just giving people a license to kill anything wearing a Turban so that the big older brother, *cough* THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA *cough* will keep us on their good side.

As terrible as war is, death is something that naturally comes with it. You can't have a war without someone dying - it's illogical - unless it's a flame war. Those are brutally non-lethal and rob you of your dignity.

Why do I get the sense that people feel surprised by the death of another soldier? The toll for US troops who have died exceeds our number of 29 by a little over 1200. If anything, the Australian troops are lucky there haven't been more. I usually hear this response though - "they're on a peace keeping mission" a.k.a the nice way to say we're killing people, but because we're better equipped with our enemy, we shouldn't expect our soldiers to die.

If you're a soldier, in a war where thousands of people are being killed, and bullets flying around everywhere and IEDs at every intersection, someone will, unfortunately, eventually bite the bullet.

If Australian soldiers are still there in following months and our awful full of shit Prime Minister is seen "crying because of it" sit back and think that the solider died because YOU sent them there and YOU used manipulative recruitment tactics to make said solider join and fight for your mysterious cause.

Angry Rant #38: I'll Carbon your tax.

Have you seen it?

You know, the Ad with Cate Blanchett advertisting the benefits of the Carbon Tax that our ~~douche bag~~ illustrious leader, Julia Gillard is trying to put through? You know the one where they don't really have any idea of how to implement it, or the effects that it will have on the population? You know the one where the the wealthier people in our society get off fairly easily, but the hard-working Australian's will get slugged with the bill because the Government just can't stop fucking up? You know the one right?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... Dr Zaius?

Nooooo! You know the one!

It's the Ad that talks about taxing large companies and the Federal Labor Government will use it's "higher revenue streams" as a way of "selling" this Tax to the people to minimize carbon emissions! Yes, they are selling this. This is what advertising is for. Private companies couldn't care less about this Carbon Tax and it will force these companies to put up their prices - that's any company that in some way, shape or form, releases Carbon Dioxide into the atmosphere - They will raise their prices on everything....

So all of them?

Here's the ad under my spotlight:

Besides the dark ominous clouds, and black smoke pouring out from the coal-fired plant in the background, much like Eyjafjallajokull did a couple of years ago and Grimsvton last week - everything that is said in the Ad is very much politically-driven spin, used as a means to make more money and pay for the $300,000 super that the next 3 idiot Prime Ministers will have.

From the Ad, I have concluded that these are the points that they're trying to make:

CO2 is a black, smoky gas (not a clear one that science has proven) and that a decrease in the level of CO2 will make the skies clearer and make birds sing more.
It will have health benefits for our already fat, sugar-junkie children.
People are the main causes of Carbon pollution, even though 97% of the WORLD'S carbon emissions are from nature.
Wind and Solar options for electricity are a good option, but are only available to people like Cate Blanchett and rich oil tycoons from Saudi Arabia with golden Cadillac's that fire Anti-Democracy missiles.
Giving the government more money to fix a problem that they had, if endorsed by celebrities, it's totally fine - which leads onto the next point...
If a celebrity says it, it must be true and...
If you're a celebrity and you have a private jet, it's ok to fly around the world, polluting the atmosphere, telling everyone just how green your thumb is and openly criticize the very thing that got you there.

To be honest, I was quite surprised that they didn't use Al Pacino or George Clooney or some other sell-out for this awful campaign. But Cate Blanchett? Michael Caton? Some weirdly-placed old person? Here's what I think you, our beloved leaders of spin and what our drop-in-and-out Australian celebrities should do, instead of making it sound "cool" to pay a tax - pay attention now...

GO AND FUCK YOURSELVES.

Seriously. Might move to Sweden, where, surprisingly, the sun shines because the skies there are not black and carbon-riddled or look like that scene from the Matrix.

Angry Rant #37: "I'm being Super-cereal!"

Writing twice in the one week about the same topic. I must seriously be pissed off with this guy.

That's right Harold! - It takes one idiot with an Archaic, misogynistic
book to scare a whole population of people who believe in the horseshit that
it bangs on about! Clever Clever!

For those living under a rock, Harold Camping predicted the end of the world in 1994 and was wrong. Last week he was wrong and today has come out saying that his calculations were off by 5 months and we'll all be dying in October.

Freedom of Speech is not a system without it's flaws - that's proven with idiots like this, Lars Von Trier and anything said or done by J.J. Abrams. Sure, people can say whatever the hell they want, whenever the hell they want, but why is this making the news? If these hardcore Christian fundamentalists want to die so fucking badly, let them. Let them huddle together in a little circle sometime in October, praying to be "taken to heaven" - But you know what?

We're not dying any time soon and, unfortunately, they aren't either.

So crazy Christians who believe in this crap - perhaps ritual suicide will bring you closer to God where you can enjoy your heaven and everything you want. Stop releasing press statements to and arguably, more stupid Media industry, who is acting just as mindlessly as some idiot watching back-to-back episodes about that tv show that discusses Shores being in Jersey.

Angry Rant #35: This is the End of the World... again? Fucking really?

The world will end in 6 billion years when our beloved Star which gave this planet life will burn up all of it's Hydrogen and Helium then rapidly expand because it will begin burning Iron, engulfing our little blue and green marble and heating the very atoms that make up our being into total oblivion, before sinking back in on itself to produce a white dwarf. Every last bit of evidence that proves that we existed will be wiped from the arse of the galaxy that is the Milky Way - Billions of years of evolution gone in the blink of eye - but this won't happen until then and not May 20.

If someone is basing their version of the end of the world on a 2000-year-old book, then they have some serious problems. Then if you base your prediction on something that was scribbled into a rock, you have an even greater problem -You literally have to be twisted if you think that the world will end on May 20. Have the doomsday idiots taken into account that there always TWO days on earth at the one time? Will we all die today and then tomorrow our flip-side will?

Numbers are funny little things - when they work their way deep into the minds of people and their extremist ideas, they can make them think all kinds of things. Take Harold Camping for example. He's a Christian Radio Broadcaster from California who uses the bible to predict dates (yes plural) that the end of the world could occur on. I have detailed something similar to what he does below:

5+6 = 9; 9 + 24 = 33; 33/3 = 11; 11-6 = 5; 5 x 4 = 20 + (his favourite month, May)

Predicting the dates is a very neutral thing - so why do these people always put a negative spin on the outcome of something that they know nothing about? Why can't something good happen tomorrow like finding a cure for cancer, or AIDS or coming up with some unlimited source of energy which has zero impact on the environment? Maybe instead of flying guided-missiles at each other, we starting shooting food and hungry people in Ethiopia.Why are all those God-bothering idiots so negative and stupid?

You step back and you realize that religion, in it's simplest form, is the problem. It's the reason why people go to war and kill each other. Then of course the constant crusading to the Middle-East to help "unite" the people by killing innocents and stealing their natural resources, then selling barrels of the black gold at some high price, so that some soccer-mum in the US will have something to complain about while she fills up her SUV.

Angry Rant #34: A Bridge not far enough!

Yes, the Harbour Bridge gets closed off and everyone is angry because some guy is protesting about not being able to see his children – If every other parent in the same position did the same thing, that bridge would never be open. However, I do think he was protesting for good cause.

But here’s a question – how can one man shut down a city? How - not why - but how?

Then when you step back and look at the state of the transport system, so roads and rail, and try and think of a reasonable explanation, you think for a little bit…you keep thinking…and then it hits you. You can sum up travelling to Sydney to anyone not from Sydney by using the following picture:

So now our newly appointed premier, Barry O’Farrell, is looking into the issue of how someone climbed to the top of the Harbour Bridge – it’s almost mind boggling to think how a person could get up there with so much security!....

I've have walked along this bridge a few times - on the entire stretch of the Harbour Bridge, I saw three security guards. Three of them - and somehow Barry O'Farrell is surprised that someone got to the top by simply climbing it.

Yes I know, he was driving on the Bridge itself before climbing it, but then what's the point of having security guards on the walk way if people can just stop their cars and climb the damn thing whenever they feel like? Then for that one man to shut down an entire city by simply climbing one bridge proves how fucked up the planning was of this city.

Could you imagine if there was a terrorist attack in Sydney? I have thought about this for a few minutes, keeping in mind what one man can do, and then found a aerial picture to illustrate what I think would happen if a bomb went off somewhere in Sydney.

Or at the least, a late train.

If there was a terrorist attack, I'd be waiting 3 hours to get my bread and milk from the IGA in Broken Hill. I'd be waiting in line for 2 hours at a Liquor Land for my rum somewhere in the church and bank-riddled Adelaide. I'd be waiting another hour for my flight in Perth....

You get the idea.

Australia would be so unprepared for any terrorist attack that it's laughable when the people running this country talk about updating security. Luckily, nobody else on this planet knows where Australia is, or cares what we think. Hooray for our non-existent country!

Angry Rant #33: 10 out of 10 for that Swan dive!

So, the news story of the day? Wayne Swan's tiny little baby surplus and getting more people to work will cover Labor's political fuck-up of introducing a bunch of new taxes that the government has no idea how they're going to work or any way of actually implementing them because they've pissed all of our money up against a wall - and now they want us to pay for their mistakes.

The big spin here is that he is motivating more people to work and getting people to think "more positively" about life, taking careful note that it is very well placed spin used as a way of getting people who work, angry about the people on welfare, taking their attention away from the new taxes - like that crazy magician you watched one time and your head hurt trying to think of how he did it.

BUT ANYWAY!

Just like regular spin, Swany, Julia and their army of liars will be looking at a surplus from this little venture of....wait for it.... $3.5 billion or 0.2% of the whole entire countries output in a year OR a drop in ocean compared to the $22.6 billion deficit we had last year. That's right. DEFECIT! Expect to be seeing more "cuts" in the near future - Labor wants to get back into power at the end of 2013 and the easiest way for them to do that is cut funding - so when the next election comes around and they magically have the economy going
"strong", it's not because they know what they're doing, they just haven't spent ANY BLOODY MONEY - they don't care about Australia - just their own, ignorant, salary-driven views and getting back into power.

But is the alternative is any better? (Do I really need to answer that?)

SIDE NOTE: How can this be a democracy if there are only to sides of Parliament to vote for? And no, The Shooter's party doesn't count because any person or group of people who think that introducing "guns" as a topic in schools is clearly mentally unstable.

So if there is no money being generated, and welfare people have continued to avoid working all this time and will probably continue to do so, and there has been nothing coming from the government as to how all this will actually work, then why the fuck are they in power?

What about people who pay an arm and leg for Uni? People on disability pensions? Here's an idea an you dumbshits - How about cuts to the pay-out that the politicians get after they leave politics? How about instead of receiving $300,000+ per-year pension for doing nothing and forcing people to work at the minimum wage to pay for that pension? In fact, why should anyone pay for that pension? They should pump that money straight back into the surplus and fix the hospital system instead of spending millions on implementing some heavily censored broadband network that WILL JUST NEVER HAPPEN.

UPDATE: Today, (May 12, 2011) Wayne Swan on ABC radio this morning could not specify the last time surplus was achieved by Labor. Immediately afterwards, he broke a glass full of water, in an effort to do the same thing that the magician did in above, but also proving just how much of a fucking idiot he is.

"The Playstation network is still down and someone has bought the Nazca lines monkey on Amazon with my credit card" - that's what I've been hearing from people of late in regards to the royal fuck-up from Sony and of course the bastard hackers themselves *cough* Anonymous has taken this way overboard in their statement-making hack.... *cough*.

However, this is not just Sony's fault for not putting up the proper anti-hacking walls, but people who stupidly gave away their information - I for one, was not one of those people - I like 20 million other people reside in the sharehouse that is 123 Fake st, Fakeville, Somewhere.

Because really...is there anywhere else cooler?

Too often, I see people throwing their details around on the interwebs like some form of cheap currency, but really all they're doing is opening the doors to a world of spam, spammers, marketing for Spam, hackers, identity theft and mysterious people who hack things to prove that it can be hacked. People just seem to be way too trustworthy when it comes to actually giving things like their address away. But seriously...why give Sony that information? If everything is going the way of 'digital distribution', why do they need to have your home address? - If those details are now in the hands of a hacker, then it's your own stupid fault. Secondly, saving your credit card details? Really? Here's a tip - remember the number and type it in every time - and not save it in the system.

When it comes to the emails, its even simpler - make an email account up for it. Yes, even "sexybeast69@hotmail.com" will do.

It's seriously this easy.

All these people bitching and complaining because a free service screwed them over and stole all their real information can only really blame themselves for putting it out there. It's like blaming the gun shop dealer after you shot yourself in the foot.

You can't forget social media websites as well - these are like goldmines for telemarketers and the business industry in general. Remember that "Osama was killed is Abbotabad - talk about abbotabad place to hide!" page that you foolishly clicked on Facebook 5mins ago? It's guaranteed that was created by some company trying to get YOUR personal contact details and find out everything about you. So when you get a phone call from some telemarketing company in India, it's not because they've scanned through the White Pages - you've given them your data. Even LinkedIn can be used as a tool for this - people will put their job title, where they've worked and what they've studied all over the internet - but when something as bad a identity theft occurs, they think "how can that happen to me?". Well it's pretty fucking simple - it's your own fault.

After all this commotion dies down, you should all come and stay at 123 Fake Street. Bring your sleeping bag and a toothbrush and I'm sure I can find some room for you between the Ace Ventura Pinball machine and the giant cardboard cut-out of Chewbacca.

Angry Rant #31: America? Fuck yeah!

Yes, after hearing about it so much today, I felt the need to get my rant on but in a more "filter out all the crap and get down into the real gritty side of things" kind of way. Like millions of other people today, I decided to take an extra long lunch to watch President Obama's "in your fucking face anti-war hippies" speech. I felt a little worried knowing that the US can just send in a special forces team and kill anyone, but I mean its Bin Laden right? We got him!?! Right??

Fuck Yeah!

If the reports are correct and nobody is pulling our dicks, then Bin Laden is very much dead, perhaps he even ended up looking like Hitler in Inglorious Basterds after he took a face-full of bullets.

But I got thinking, even though he was an islamic-extremist, psychotic nut-job, he wasn't prepared to die for his cause - why do you think he's been running and hiding all this time and vlogging when he can get the chance? The ones that US should be targeting are the ones who aren't afraid to die....

...and then we get the news that a 12-year-old boy in Afghanistan (click for story) blew himself up today, killing four people and wounding 12. If there was ever a person to be afraid it would have to be someone who is willing to kill themselves and everyone around them just to make some point. Bin Laden was nothing more than a coward who brainwashed people into killing themselves for some "just cause" based on....wait for it...

So with Bin Laden dead and all of America cheering because they finally received justice, I'll ask this one question - If 500 terrorists escaped from a prison in Southern Afghanistan last week and one extremist terrorist was killed this week, how many terrorists do you have left?

If Bin Laden was really killed by US troops how is being told to "be vigilant", in case of retaliation, actually winning? It's like shooting the Sheriff and partying, but a little voice in your head tells you to watch out for the Deputy.

Well, I guess one dead Bin Laden is better than one alive one, but there's still a whole network of terrorists there who are just as influential - think of it like Steve Jobs and Apple. If Steve Jobs died today, I can guarantee you that the Iphone 36 will be released, as planned, next year.

But unfortunately there is one problem - there are no pictures/video footage of Bin Laden or of his "out to sea" burial, so is Obama just trying to get re-elected as The President after the "you weren't born here" assertion by Donald Trump or has he just had enough of the fighting and wanted a relevant excuse to leave? If so, then why does this guy, who tweeted the whole event, saying otherwise?

Angry Rant #30: Will + Kate + News = Ugh.

If I was to ever marry Beyonce, I would personally make sure that the names of our children will be so utterly different from Will and Kate that it's scary.

Yeah, even Kang or Kudos would suffice.

Of course, I'm talking about the "royal wedding" bullshit that has latched itself onto commercial television much like the proverbial plague - or perhaps it's the other way around - perhaps typical mainstream commercial news stations, as awful as they are, have latched onto this wedding because of the sheer "glamour". I'm here asking "why"?

...and why Mars Bars now have caramel in them.

Like many things throughout history, if you give something enough time, it can essentially morph from something overly negtive into something overtly positive - take for example this wedding. A royal wedding.

Now take out ALL of the "glamour" and think about what it stands for. None of those people who are so called "royal" got into power because they were good people and wanted to change society - no! They were born into it. They were born with a silverspoon in their mouth. The powers during the time of King/Queen rule heavily taxed the people under their reign because they had more money, more power and had "God" behind them. So, somewhere along the line someone in this "royal" family was a big fucking bully who used scare tactics and capital punishment to get their way. It was also a system heavily based around "God" and how he supposedly chose them to rule. So not only does this prove that religion is a farce, but proves that it was used as a tool by the powerful to oppress the weak. You speak out of turn or look the wrong way - you were very publicly taken away and killed. If you were a peasant, you hated the monarchy.

Fast-forward to today and look at what we get? Swarms of media coverage, people lining the streets to catch a glimpse of the couple as they drive past in William's inherited '58 Bentley. People wave their flags as if they're proud that these people are better off than they are! This literally makes my fucking head spin.

One thing that has changed, however, is who we hate. We still hate the power, but just a democratic version which is something I find very ironic. Now with all it's flaws, a democratic government is one I would prefer to live under compared to a god-fearing hierarchical system of control. Just think about all the things that I've talked about here and imagine what would have happened if I was this outspoken during the middle ages?

I would have been a head of the competition.

So. When you flick the TV on tonight and you see this royal wedding and awful shows like Today and Sunrise are plugging the living fuck out of it, just think to yourself "these people don't deserve this so why do they get to live in old castle with a price tag beyond any real number when according to Bono a child dies in Africa from starvation every time he snaps his fingers?"

Then stop fucking clicking!!

Might just avoid commercial television until all this crap is over...or until we hear about the next earthquake that supposedly has occurred because a bunch of Mayans a few thousand years ago said so... but mostly because they thought that drawing up a calendar for 6000 years was heaps of time to do stuff until they had to draw up the next one.

It's Easter! Better open your wallets kids!

No...seriously...open your damn wallet up and purchase an obscene amount of chocolate to point where you won't eat it until the same time next year because that's what big business wants you to do. But somehow this all ties into that Jesus fairytale that somehow always seems to appear in the news this time of the year.

Now from the perspective of a person who doesn't use or need religion I find this "Happy Easter" saying that I've been hearing over the past few days somewhat strange - Strange as in about 60% of the Australian population in the 2006 census, described themselves as Christian and for them being happy on a day when their messiah was brutally tortured seems strange. Of course I'm not taking into account how he supposedly "rose from the dead" because well... Christians still believe he was brutally tortured and somehow symbolically drinking his blood and eating him is their way of making it all better.

So why do Christians wish me a "Happy Easter" and why do people who aren't religious wish me a "Happy Easter" too? What the hell?

But here's a couple of questions for you - what does a symbolically cannibalistic group of people who munch on their saviour every Sunday with a Pope who was part of the Hitler Youth have to do with fluffy little bunnies?

And why am I being spoon fed this garbage about purchasing copious amounts of food that's saturated in sugar in a country deemed the fatest in the world with the leading cause of death being heart disease?

It's pretty obvious that the big players like Woolworths and Coles have just tapped into a thought stream here - that being when it's Easter, people HAVE to buy chocolate, pork, steak, potatoes, alcohol, petrol, bread, ham platters, fruit platters, milk, soy milk, tea, coffee, biscuits, nicely cut cubes of cheese, overly-expensive gluten-free foods, hot cross buns, disposible plates, and even cake that looks like Thomas the Tank Engine if you're into that sort of thing.

Hopefully, you've noticed where I'm coming from.

But after we've finished being 'good little consumers' this week, we jump straight into ANZAC Day where we honour our fallen soldiers by drinking ourselves blind and gambling - and don't forget all those other times throughout the year when the most cynical of us see things like Christmas and even something like Mother's Day used as another opportunity to empty our wallets because it has become a social norm and to challenge this wouldn't be expected or taken on lightly by mainstream society - The Daily Telegraph practically lives off that shit.

But it end, it just comes down to you, reader. The social norm is something that is never challenged because if you do, you end up being ridiculed by people you know - and if you're known by the media - then the same thing happens on a much larger scale. People just sit back and watch the world around them buzz by without stopping for a second and asking themselves "what's that about?" (DD) and running scared when something changes.

Oh your God... he's going up the down escalator!

If you want to waste money on a corporate holiday or celebrate old tales of misogyny, then buy all means, have yourself a great Easter. But if you looking to stand back for once and just look at situation from a different perspective, you might just find a much better alternative.

Angry Rant #28: ...And the Burqa gets the cut.

So, if you've been living under a rock for the last few days, you would have missed the news that the Burqa has been officially banned in the land of revolution, France.

So this thing:

Now for someone who is anti-religion, I support this ban. For those that think that it's just a "cultural thing", I implore you to find a women who wears this and ISN'T Muslim.

That being said, I do support people who exercise freedom of expression, but I am stumped when it comes to the burqa. How is it "women's liberation" or "freedom of expression" if we don't actually know who's expressing themselves? If someone has to hide their face when they voice their opinion, why even bother voicing it? Where's the freedom?

Oh wait.

It's because it's a religious based argument - and when it's a religious argument, anything that's logical flies out the window faster than that stupid Budgie we all had growing up.

Go on. Fly away. Who will put up with your crap now?

Already, there have been two arrests in France from women who oppose the ban. I'm just very surprised that pro-women groups haven't come out to openly support this ban though. It's just another case of religious empowerment over women by men in an overly dominant religious culture. It's pretty much that simple.

However, on the other side of the fence, we have a country which is predominately Christian with the largest population of Muslims in Europe, and with Christian leaders, so it's obvious that the laws that have come into place are based on their own moral system and what they've picked up from their own religion - and also because they are fearful of that all powerful "muslim threat" that seems to be sweeping the globe at the moment....much like the "threat" of communism did in the 60s and 70s.

Give it another 20 years and the Christian and Muslim cultures will be best friends. We'll probably be flying into space together and solving real issues like poverty and finding a cure for cancer, or even cheering on out-spoken Russian spies who have used their fame to become gorgeous models...

Angry Rant #27: Again with Klingons...

This government just doesn't get it.

They don't know how to separate church from state.

Last week, there was some serious progress made towards having an R18+ category for Video Games, but alas, that bastard Australian Christian Lobby group has stuck it's nose in again. Our last major blockage for having that rating in Australian was the South Australian Attorney-General Michael Atkinson, who has since resigned from the position.

But after the elections in Victoria, their new premier Robert Clarke, seems to be siding with the ACL. This argument has become so mind-numbingly fucking stupid, that if I was to ever actually speak with someone at the ACL, it wouldn't be very pleasant. Since all of the States and the Federal Government need to agree on the change for it to happen, it's now become even more difficult for that legislation to pass through.

But not as difficult as trying to reach the top of this flag pole.

This is where it gets worse.

Since the elections in NSW, Fred Nile and his Army of nut-job Christians have gained more power in the senate, so if our newly elected Premier, our own Barry O'Farrell, would like to put new legislation through regarding any other issue, it will have to get a nod of approval from Fred Nile - but Fred Nile will only approve of such legislation if the Liberal Party backs some of their extremist views points - i.e. opposing an R18+ category because it would make it easier for kids to get a hold of violent video games.

Angry Rant# 26: Religion VS Everything

Now, from the get go, I want to tell you, reader, that what you will be reading will be controversial and some of the images may disturb you - Some people maybe offended, but not in a channel 10 "this man broke his leg, change the channel or close your eyes and think about a basket full of baby orangutans and how much you'd like to cuddle them", kind of way - but if you do believe in some all mighty power, than I suggest you do close your eyes and think of a basket full of monkeys - and I'm not joking. Things are going to get serious.

Deadly serious.

If you do not wish to read a blog that essentially has a 110% disregard for religion and the atrocites that it has been associated with - past, present and future - or discussing the some of the hellish things that have been witnessed by people over the course of human history - then read something else. But if you're looking to have a meaningful discussion on what I've written, then please - read on.

In a news story this week, in regards to the NSW state elections, a story about Fred Nile and abortion came up.

For those of you who don't know, Nile was suggesting than an ultrasound picture be taken and shown to the mother before the abortion. That's right - one of these -

Eating my breakfast didn't help in this situation, probably because I started choking on my toast when I heard it.

What can you say to that sort of thing? Do you take it on this chin and take him for the fundamentalist Christian that he is? Or do you show that people are smarter than what he thinks and don't believe in his archaic garbage that was written a couple of thousand years ago by a group of power-hungry mysoginists who were yearning for more control.

We see it time and time again - it dates back to ancient Rome, Greece, Egypt - religion is used as a conformity tool - a tool of oppression to keep people on someone's version of the "straight and narrow". It's used to keep the poor, poor and used to make the rich, well...richer. Now obviously the belief system 4000 years ago was much different than today, but what's the difference between a women being beaten for being in the same house with another man other than her husband and showing the picture of an unborn child to a women who obviously can not bring the child up in the proper environment?

Now of course, It all comes down to choice, but this choice is restricted by religion. It confines it like a rubber band around an ankle - but if you take it off, you go to hell.

It seems to that we are already living in "Hell". Religion is just another factor making it worse. It segregates people, essentially alienating them from everyone else. You only have to watch some poorly written news story on Channel 9 to know how muslims are treated in Western society - not because of the person that they are, but because of the RELIGION that they follow.

If "God" was so devine, why are there so many religions? Why do those that follow a particular one disregard the other? In my eyes, Christianity and Islam are the same thing. They're a set of rules they you're meant to follow, otherwise you'll end up in a place like the pictures above - but even worse.

Now, I could very easily point out and bad-mouth all the discrepancies and contradictions in The Bible, but not only would that just be a cheap shot, I don't think that would validate my argument. Like most things, the interpretation of the meaning implied, is what's most important. War, hatred and racism are all a result that can be directly related to Religion. So here's a question - What do YOU think would happen if we had an extremist Christian running our country? Religion itself is a personal thing to many people, but it has no right, at all, to be in the walls of a governmental building (That means both Abbott and Nile) If those that are in power need to refer to teachings of 2000 year old novel to be able to make the right decision, then we have the wrong people in power.

Although she's an Atheist, I still don't think she should be in power.

We need people who know what is right - in terms of what is morally correct and what it's economically viable. Now of course, there are going to be times when the two can not merge together, but that does not mean that a religious point of view needs to be brought in for a decision to be made. It's utter laziness.

To me, those that follow a religion can't be accepting of others as in a "Love you Neighbour, but only if they love what you love" way. They have they're own narrow view of the world and will continue to look at the world from a keyhole. For them, saying that everything that's ever happened on this planet was because of God, instead of logically trying to find an explanation for why something has actually happened is they're only option. Take for example this picture:

Now because the napkin says that it is the "true religion", the people who follow that religion will naturally believe everything that it written within it that napkin will be true as well. If it says that everything on this planet came from "God" and that "God" is the only reason why you exist, then that is lazy. As people, aren't we supposed to be striving for greater intelligence and knowledge? Too seek out the answers, and not just take the easy route and sing 'Hallelujah' every Sunday?

Sitting on this over-cluttered train everyday exposes many people to different forms of music. I hear everthing from the lastest failings of some r&b/hip hop douchebag all the way to the likes of Zep and Priest.

However my problem lies with those that listen to r&b...loudly, on their phones...almost as if they are proclaiming to the world "Hey! I like r&b and everyone on this train should listen to it too"

Angry Rant #25: It's pronounced "Nu-cle-ar"

Looks like the Pacific Plate's been having a bit of a party in recent months.

And everyone's invited.

Most recently is the earthquake/tsunami combo that's hit Japan's east coast pretty hard. I'm not all for guess-tamations, but to say that at least 12,000 people would have died would be pretty accurate. That's 12,000 from the earthquake and the tsunami alone - compared to the 1 death that was caused by one of the nuclear power plants exploding.

But it seems that the nuclear angle is the ONLY angle when it comes to Japan - never mind the thousands of people trapped under 10m of mud and water from the 9.1 magnitude earthquake - we should all be scared of the impending nuclear meltdown in Japan.

...because shit will hit this puppy.

The push by the media to create this fear-mongering has allowed a bunch of anti-nuclear protesters to grab this story by the nuts as a massive 'I told you so'.

I did some calculations on the numbers I mentioned earlier, and I've come to the conclusion that the earthquake/tsunami combo is far more life-threatening than any nuclear outbreak by a factor of about...

So when I hear about the supposed trajectory of these radioactive clouds, and fires, and stories of "Modern-day Samurais", I try to think why our good ol' buddies in the media are doing this for.

And then it hit me...

It seems to me that the media is treating every crisis like an episode of the Jersey Shore - that being it's the same repetitive stuff over and over again until they find something that they can flesh out for three episodes. So if there's a new angle then they'll latch on it faster than Donkey did with Shrek. Then of course is all the advertising and marketing organisations who are trying to get a piece of the action.

Of course this entirely my opinion, and for me, the media has cried wolf one too many times.

Angry Rant #24: Ain't whatcha' used to be!

Pauline Hanson.

The name itself instills enough negative energy in me for me to power a small bar fridge so that people may drink an assortment of beverages whilst having a good time at a house party for the whole night.

...and a barbeque too.

However!

There are two types of people that have become apparent in this Pauline Hanson 'I'm like John Farnhnam' comeback:

1. Those who won't touch her name on a ballot paper with a 10ft ballot name touching poll
2. Those that think that she acts the way that most people think.

It would be nice to think that we're all happy-multicultural-embracing hippies who chill out and listen to jimi hendrix while smoking pot, but the fact of the matter is that we generally aren't. In fact, I'd be pretty confident in saying that everyone in this country has at some stage in their life, made or laughed at a racist joke. But in all fairness, this nation is built on people taking the piss out of one another. That's what happens when we have so many different people from different backgrounds mixing together. We live in a multi-ethic country, so to wish for a multicultural one would be like trying to find a story in Avatar.

So with so many different kinds of people who live in this country and for Hanson to come out and say that Australia isnt the place that it used to be, is not only ignorant and stupid, but affirming the fact that she has no idea what the words "to be Australian" are.

Her perception of what the average Australian is so massively distorted that I find it hard to believe that she could even challenge the NSW seat. Is she not aware that her country was built on immigrants - not Australians?

It's those damn immigants.

Or does she think that we should live in a society full of people with blonde hair and blue eyes? I am trying to understand where this perception came from. I could take the easy route and blame western media for creating the perception that all western people, or all Australians, when put together, look like a scene from Home and Away, which is what I believe she thinks. But I think about the hatred that she has for non-Anglo-Saxons and I think to myself, what the fuck are you doing? Why are you trying to run a multi-ethnic state? Look at you??!

There is only one reason as to why she's trying to have a stab at the top-job in NSW - she's flat broke. Either that or just stupid. We all just know how GREAT this state has been run by the current Puppet Premier, Kristina Keneally, whose pockets are probably very heavy since she began her little stint in office. Lets just hope Barry O'Farrell gets it right, otherwise we are royally screwed.

Angry Rant #23: It can only go up from here!

So apparently all throughout the Middle-East shit is happening - but we're talking about here is the good sort of shit. The kind where the people rise up against the powers that be and stand up for what they believe in. Now since Gaddaffi bombed his own people in Tripoli, western societies have pulled their heads out of the sand and all of the sudden things look serious - not because of the fact that the Libyan Leader is killing people in his own country, but because oil prices will rise (this is a bad thing for any country that runs on fossil fuels *cough* the US *cough*).

"Wait, what's going on?"

What happens in Libya is going to be a little snap shot of what could happen if another uprising occurs in Saudi Arabia - a single disturbance there could destabilize western economies faster than you can say "Fuck. I need petrol!". This comes down to one thing and one thing only - fear. And not you're regular "I'm scared of anyone wearing a burqa" fear, but the fear of not being able to support an economy. But here's a thought - what happens if things do get bad in Saudi Arabia (i.e. the people stand up against their totalitarian governments and religiously motivated dictators?)

This might be getting a bit too symbolic...

It almost seems to me as if that these supposed "world powers" are actually supporting these regimes because they inactively maintain the status-quo. I keep seeing the same contradiction over and over again - up front we support what the people in the Middle-East are doing but the heads of our countries won't do anything because they are aware of the consequences that it will have on the petrol/gas economy.

Enough said.

Now you'd think that something as important as this would make headlines everynight - but you know why it isn't? We are being forced into a false sense of security - fossil fuels are non-renewable. One day we will eventually run out, but no - we are too busy getting mouth fulls of some idiotic footy player punching some other idiot and some girl who sucks CEOs off for money then rats them out!!

Angry Rant #22: We want Democracy?

I've been following the uprising in the Arab world closely - some of stories behind the militant leaders that are in charge are eerily disturbing. It almost makes me wonder why the people haven't revolted sooner...or why world "super" powers like the U.S. haven't jumped in to save the day like they always do (there's no oil - Egypt is run on tourism!)

Cynical to the MAX!

But I have been seeing a recurring theme - one that is not so much wrong, but spoken without much thought. Now I have to preface this by saying that I am all for Democracy - when it does work the way it should, that is, run by the people, it works in fair manner. But after the recent barrage of Wikileaks, my idea of Democracy is somewhat diminished.

So when I see a screaming protester in Libya shouting that they want Democracy, written on a sign in plain English, I can't help but think to myself what form of Democracy do the want? Do they want a their own version of Democracy or are they looking to just copy a Western version..

Oh ok, makes sense.

When we hear stories about the International Monetary Fund and the reasoning behind why it lends money to poorer countries, I can't help but wonder if their idea of "democracy" is somewhat misplaced. Now of course, ANYTHING is better than the current situation, and we should be lucky to not have militant leaders who call in fighter jets to bomb protesters, but after hearing some of the stories that have been revealed by the whole Wikileaks saga, it makes me really wonder as to whether or not Democracy could actually work in the Middle-East. And what about UN intervention? What about the ability of one of the five world "super powers" (So the U.S, U.K, France, Russia, China) being able to veto anything they like (or anything that's not in the best interests for them)

For Example - If a decision was put forward by say...a new Democratic Party in Libya to the UN that involved say...oil...

Libya - Know for the largest oil reserves in Africa and this.

...and they were to make some trade deal with Western countries because the Democratic Government would most certainly be Western based, the IMF (who'll most likely lend the new Government money) and the UN could essentially force the new Government to sell that oil to our Favourite Five for half the cost, but in return provide "support", just so some fat cat in Washington can fill this puppy up -

What's been going on in these countries of the past few decades has been wrong. It's been disturbing, it's damn right disgusting to think that no western country would ever intervene and give the people in these countries where they know that murdering those who revolt is just an every day practice, is sickening. Do they not find a "leader" who hires mercenaries to kill the people in his country wrong? Or does no one at all care about what goes on in Africa?

But hey, maybe these people will it get right.

Angry Rant #21: Who the hell cares??

Over the last few days we were all bombarded with the news that Brian McFadden freaked out - Marge style - on a plane from L.A. to Sydney... and for some reason, which is entirely unknown to me, made the headlines.

(I know what you're saying to yourself right now)

The week before we were bombarded yet again by the news of that idiot cricketer known for that "one" bowl, Shane Warne, and that fling between Liz Hurley.

"...and the reasoning behind this push by media outlets to make this the number one news story in ALL Australia is?", I hear you ask in the background. Well apparently, according to the media, we enjoy that shit. We, apparently, prefer to hear about the escapades of some idiotic cricketer and the equally stupid Brian McFadden.

"No ball" alright you tosser.

So I've been asking everyone that I see about it. You know the usual, "so what do you think of the top stories for this week, in particular the one regarding that McFadden wanker?" and I keep hearing the same response....

It's something along the lines of - WHO THE FUCK CARES?

When the media thinks that people, like us, want to read it, it's almost as insulting as this guy -

Now that being said, I'm trying to get my head around the mentality that's used by these so called "media outlets" - even the Sydney Morning Herald was reporting on this - and I have been trying to think of a possible reason as to why it is the media thinks that we enjoy hearing about this shit! when it comes down to it, the people that write the news are just as Australian as anyone else here i.e We think everything is bullshit - so why the hell do they think that's ok to write about something that is so pointless and insignificant as this?

Is it the click count on the website? Do they throw provocative images at people with headlines that practically emulate porn? It wouldn't be the first time that ninemsn.com.au, or the dailytelegraph.com.au has done such a thing - you only need to watch ONE episode of Media Watch to figure that out.

Or is it because these people are lazy and pathetic excuses for Journalists who are too fucking stupid to think of something that would be worth hearing about? It would definitely be more worthwhile to report on something like this:

Angry Rant #20: So...there's nothing to gain?

I've just been watching all the reports on Egypt. I mean ALL of them. Revolutions on a scale as large as this interest me greatly.

But I noticed something. And no, it wasn't the shameless plug that Nine News did for Underbelly, (even though that pissed me off) but the reports from all our supposed "World Leaders" who are supporting the people who have revolted against the government.

Which is pharoh-nough.

But didn't the same thing happen in Iraq? Isn't that the reason why the US jumped in to "save" the day? Isn't that why Aussie soliders and getting killed in Afghanistan from IEDs?

Then we hear how these massive protests will have negative effect on the Egyptian economy - an economy based on toursim. Would I be so cynical to think that because Egypt is not exactly rich in natural resources, that this is the reason why none of our "World Leaders" haven't jumped in and put a stop to this Military Dictatorship that's been happening over the past 30 years?

This just brings out the obvious answer though - any western country *cough* the U.S. *cough* who has nothing to potentially gain from "saving" the people or saving their own arses, won't commit to helping. They'll sit there, sipping there soy lattés, and let the people rip themselves apart. Even the damn UN Secretary-General is supporting people.

Talk it up.

The United States is nation that is dependent on energy. It has so many people and cars and needs to provide so much power to so many people that it will only "save" countries that will potentially help them - much like the International Monterey Fund with it's 'We'll-lend-poor-countries-money-only-if-they-invest-that-money-back-onto-western-economies'.

It's just a given that if the U.S. doesn't see any way for it to benefit from invading a country, then it won't and neither will we.

This guy takes the same approach.

Angry Rant #19: Keeping it Brief.

I've been watching George Negus and his "6pm Report" and I'm not shocked to find that the ratings are terrible. It's a shame that when the news actually tries to do something properly (emphasis on the 'tries') it rates poorly. It really makes you wonder why shows like the Today Show and Sunrise take on such an entertainment style to the news.

People just don't care about anything that's happening outside of their own little worlds - even in their little worlds they don't care. If something like Cyclone Yasi occurs, we get bombarded by the news for an entire week until the directors and producers decide that people don't want to hear about it anymore. Even something as devastating as that gets pushed out of the news after a while.

Wonder how long till this goes off the radar.

Who else saw that infamous "Count down clock" on the News.com website? Media outlets weren't treating the cyclone as a serious threat, but like the next episode of Jersey fucking Shore!!!! Yasi had gotten more coverage BEFORE it had actually hit the mainland!!!

And then when something that is generally important to hear about, like these "Riots" in Egypt, occurs, the media never report on the the reasons WHY the people are protesting, it's always the violence. They tend to leave out the fact that the "riots" where actually started by a bunch peaceful protesters who were just making a statement, but Channel 9 would rather report on the dangers of their own idiotic Journalists stuck in hotel because there had been threats against them.

It's like watching this but with Peter Overton.

Drama and entertainment rule the news, but when people try to do the right thing, they're ignored by the masses.

Kind of a bit depressing.

Angry Rant #18: Oh, we're all dying again?

Ok, so, firstly the floods in Queensland have pretty much overshadowed every single news story, both major and minor, that is taking place around the world - not that that's a bad thing - but last year the floods in Pakistan left over 1 million people displaced and it got 3 minutes air-time, Haiti still looks like it was hit by a bomb and that the current floods in Brazil have killed nearly 650 people....

BUT ANYWAY!

I thought I'd try something different and get my rant on in less news related way. Yesterday I decided to watch Waterworld with Kevin Costner - a few days prior I was exposed to the filth that is the film 2012 and even Deep Impact before that. I began to see a pattern, so I figured I'd might open the flood gates a little.

When the world turns to shit, it should end like this. Wet shoes suck.

Why are we so obsessed with our own destruction? Using the excuse "I just want to see what it would look like" just doesn't hold up. What you're watching is just someones expensive money-making interpretation in a blatent attempt to suck in viewers. But then again, I get a buzz out of zombie flicks. So why the hell do we get a twisted sense of joy when shit like this happens?

Earth decided to get a little stoned on its last day at work.

Of the few things that I have thought about, I think the one thing that stands out is our invulnerability - or the perception that we are. Typically, western cultures are pretty damn safe places to be - I know I feel pretty safe where I am now and unless you're in a worn torn African country being forced into a diamond mine or your village is being run by a Columbian drug lord who will shoot your family if you don't work, then I guess you could say the same. So when someone is put out of their comfort zone, or in this case, engaging in someone's interpretation of being out of theirs, we enjoy it.

But does that mean that everyone who went and watched 2012 hated life? Or do we secretly hate the fact that everything is the same - day in day out - and watching millions of people drown/get hit by asteroids//killed by zombies/crushed by the Vatican, is like squeezing our internal stress ball? Why do we pay to see so much destruction - and enjoy it - but when it really happens our first thoughts are ones sympathy and sadness? We watch a news story on the floods in Queensland and think that it's terrible, but when we see a movie poster with this on it...

But we still watched it.

...we think, "Cool! Lets see that when it comes out! A movie that looks this awesome just has to be good!!" Then, when we see it, we get douche bags like this

We get douche bags like this who put on laughable Russian accents, who use badly placed puns at the most inappropriate times to convey humour, and who use those cringe-worthy "Hang on! It's gonna be a rough landing" lines. I wonder what people are doing in Queensland? Were they making humourous remarks when the Brisbane River flooded? How could flying a plane over the planet, literally caving in on itself, actually be funny?

There's a problem here, but I'm not a psychologist, so understanding the inner-workings of someone's mind isn't exactly my profession. However, I do know what I think, and unless the end of the world involves Zombies, both of the running and walking type (because lets face it, sometimes we feel like a little target practice) and I have access to a shotgun, a hunting rifle, explosives, a 9mm handgun, food, beer, a '67 Shelby Mustang with a snow plow attachment, a rusty chainsaw, Rambo's compass-knife and A LOT of ammunition, I don't want a part of it.

Angry Rant #17: Make it stop!!!!

On News Year's Day, I watched one of the most sickening things that I have ever witnessed - heightened more by the fact that it was advertised on pay TV as "entertainment".

The show in question, Toddlers and Tiaras delves into the world of child pageants and shows the children and how they and their families prepare for them. I have been trying to decide whether or not to write about something like this, due to the fact that the very thought of this infuriates me and I wasn't entirely sure that what I would write wouldn't just be a whole lot of swearing, and also because most people would despise any show where parents use their children as currency to fuel their own selfish needs. But if you're reading this, I've obviously decided to write it.

....is how I felt.

I've been trying to understand how a adult, a parent, could put their own child through something as bad this. I'm also thinking this comes down to one of two things:

The parents genuinely believe that their child is the most beautiful thing on this planet, and ultimately believe that looks and nothing else will get them to wherever it is they want to be in life.
The parents are a bunch of selfish, money-grubbing assholes who use their own children to make fast cash, and nothing more.

If you were to talk to any of the parents, I can assure you they would all say something similar to the first point - no person would openly admit that they use their child as currency, but that doesn't mean they don't. The episode that I was watching had a parent who openly described his child losing in the pageant like a large company dismissing a "product". How could this possibly been seen as entertainment? I can question the integrity of the parents, but this falls back on the producers of the show as well. You have to ask the question "how" in a situation like this. What has forced these parents to sell their children out?

Bam.

The child's well being is being put last. They are being thrown into a world we're they are led to believe that looks mean everything. The children, especially the girls, are portrayed as objects that are overtly-sexualised to make them seem more appealing. Cases in point? A 2-year-old wearing Madonna's cone bra outfit and another girl loaded on Pixie Sticks because she was tired, in what I saw as an obvious attempt to mimic a drug user with cocaine. These children are brought up in a culture that emphasises the need for women to use their bodies as sexual objects as a way of progressing in life.

Can you fix this problem? Can you fix a culture?

You just know that God doesn't exist when this is classified as entertainment, when Jersey Shore has it's own news show and when Justin Beiber is still alive.

This one has me stumped.

Sound Familiar? I could have sworn that Julian Assange was spouting the same thing. In fact, being the leader of the Opposition, I guess he's obliged to oppose the idiotic ideas of both the Federal and State Governments. I want to start with the fact that I am in no way pro Labor or Liberal, so any bias you think I might have can be put on the window sill and given a gentle push.

Barry O'Farrell must also be obliged to take on the general perception of this State Government - which is probably a good thing. (I'm wondering why most politicians don't do this.) This whole "Denial of Democracy" idea from a 'I-Want-To-Get-Into-Power' perspective is working like charm. But I can't help but wonder WHY he's trying so hard to do so.

Let me explain - The current State Labor Government has been running NSW for the last 15 years, and wasting billions of dollars on pretty much anything, in an effort to trick people into thinking that they are actually doing something - think Avatar. But now, the people have woken up and realised that they're more twisted then a corkscrew and all the money being pissed up against the wall is...well...just that.

Public Indecency or a Political Statement?

Labor haven't done anything but run this state into the ground. With that said, why is Barry O'Farrell and the Liberal party trying so damn hard to get into power? Even if the Liberal Party sat up some beach chairs and had a 2 month booze-fest on Macquarie Street, yelling out profanities about the mothers of the Labor members walking past, they would still get into power. As awesome as that would be, if Barry O'Farrell and the Liberal Party are trying to prove to the people of NSW that the party on the other side of the fence ISN'T corrupt, they've got another thing coming. Do they really think that an inquiry into the power sell-off will actually do anything? What more could they expect to gain? People in power never go to prison - they just move to The Bahamas.

Is the next NSW Government channeling Julian Assange and his Wikileaks to make themsleves seem more people-friendly? Isn't Wikileaks' sole purpose to shake the foundations of democracy i.e. not good for them? Will the new Liberal party NOT lie to the people and waste money on pointless ventures?

Those bloody protesters in London! They keep on causing havoc and kicking the Royal's Car as they were driving past. What hooligans! Those young whipper snappers just keep stirring up trouble and making the riot police have to work. For Shame...

There was no actual coverage of the REASON these University Students were protesting? There was a reason?

The violence started after a vote by the Coalition Government to raise the basic tuition fees by three times the amount that they are now by 2012. If that were to happen in Australia, I know I would be protesting my $100k+ fees. But it seems that the violence has overshadowed the reasons behind the protest itself. In fact, a news report on Channel Nine (not by Channel Nine, but with a London Correspondent) questioned the British Home Secretary Theresa May, whether or not Camilla, the wife of Prince Charles was "poked with a stick".

Poked with a Stick - This question was ACTUALLY asked. A respectable journalist thought that this was newsworthy. Why were they even driving through a riot anyway?!

Besides the fact that I couldn't care less about the Royals, pointless dumb, idiotic sub-stories like this distract people from the facts and the reasons behind the protest. The thing that really pissed me off is the fact that these "politicians" who voted FOR the rise in fees, never had to pay tuition fees themselves - that's all paid for by the English taxpayer i.e the Uni Students who work their arses off to make a living, and will now have more fees to pay. If that doesn't piss you off the most in this story, then nothing else will.

If I was an English University Student, I would be doing the exact same thing.

Angry Rant #14: Wikileaks like crazy!

Wikileaks has hit the headlines again – this time in a very negative way, or at least what people are being led to believe is a very negative. Firstly, Julian Assange, the Australia guy in charge of the release of Wikileaks, has nothing to do with the leaks themselves – he is merely the medium that people on the inside use to get the information out. Now that aside, for a collection of United States Congressman to say that Assange should get the death penalty for releasing the information is not only absurd, but it proves that those that are in positions of power have had their cages rattled a bit – and it’s about bloody time.

If the Wikileaks we’re false, I very much doubt that these “World Powers” would be so up-in-arms about the whole issue. Do not believe the lies and spin when there is a press release from the U.S. government stating that Assange has engaged in a Cyber-attack on the U.S. – it’s the logical thing to expect when the foundations of a world power have been rocked by a little wikileaks earthquake

So what’s the spin from “World Powers”? That lives will be lost. Seems like a fair assumption, but haven't lives been lost in the past - aren't lives being lost now? The most important leak released would be the knowledge that Saudi Arabia isn’t a happy camper it regards to Iran’s Nuclear Program, and want someone (*cough cough * U.S. *cough cough*) to “disrupt” their opertations. The program itself was sanctioned by the UN (But even the U.N. is only really run by five nations, the U.S. included, so I guess that won’t come as a surprise to most people.

Such a good album title.

This brings me to the main point of this whole argument – most of things that have been released by Wikileaks has already been known – it’s now been made official. For example,

The Western World is also scared of Iran’s Nuclear Program (No surprise there)
The U.S. thinks very little of Australia (again, no surprise

If everyone is aware of it, why are people afraid of talking about it? (Yes, there is a Harry Potter reference there, but I’ll let you figure it out)

I thought the “democratic Western-world” was supposed to be just that – democratic, i.e. run by the people. I’m a citizen, you’re a citizen, yet we are constantly left out of the equation – we are used to go and fight in wars that have very little to do with us; we are robbed of our money by the corporate world who run this planet. We make their wallets even heavier, yet there are more people that live in poverty and die in the worst conditions and are left to fend for themselves like animals. We keep the rich, rich and the poor continue to die.

The Problem.

So these “World Powers” are in charge of the world because they are morally and ethically correct? They care about the people, and never put themselves first? They do everything they can to help countries in need?

No.

Money = Power

It’s taken a while for these countries to aquire it, and they’ll do all that is within their power to make sure that they stay on top.

Angry Rant #13: Top Gear or No Gear?

Where has my passion for Top Gear gone? It also must have been sold off for advertising when the show made the move from SBS to Channel 9 (That damn Channel 9 likes to screw things up all the time doesn't it?... but I digress) It seems my beloved show has become nothing more than a visual blender of pointlessness. It has become a show for all three men, who understand their fame, and will do anything to stay on top.

What happened to show that used to be about fast cars and how incredible they where!?!

What happened to those night's where I'd sit back after a tough day in Yr 12 and watch Mythbusters, then some serious car action!! And by car action I mean super-fast cars, and not racing upside down caravans and an assortment of other idiotic pointless stunts to get media attention.

At what point did the producers of the show think that changing the entire formula was a good idea? When they realised that their wallets would become a lot thicker? I know people directly who hate driving and everything to do with cars, but enjoy this new version of Top Gear. Where does this leave the real car fans? I don't care about them smashing cars up for the sake of smashing them up - I have Mythbusters for that. What we don't need is another variety show for the masses - I enjoyed watching Top Gear on SBS, you know back when it was about the cars - not about the hosts. It seems they have become the victim of their own fame.

Angry Rant #12: Is this an Ad or is it News?

Nine News reported on a story this afternoon, and then again on the 6pm news, detailing the final result of the TV show, The Block and I have a few questions:

Who the hell cares?
Advertising makes news?
Does anyone actually like Australian TV?

How can a TV network like Channel Nine get away with this kind of news story? I, like most people, do not care about some stupid, worthless "reality" TV show or how it's idiotic contestants are feeling. I don't care about how much money they've won, or what they're going to spend it on. I don't care about the problems they face when they try to restore some house - It means nothing to everyone. Is there NOTHING else going on in the world besides that one pointless TV show?

Nope. It doesn't look like it.

Then when a show like Media Watch does a story on why that particular news story is just shamelessly plugging their own garbage, the word from the Channel Nine camp sounds something like, "Do the "journalists" at Media Watch have anything better to do?"

Wait...so there are Journalists at Channel 9? Journalists? Channel 9? Now there's two words that should never go together. Take, for example, earlier in the year when there were floods in northern Victoria. All the reporters on the scene were getting knee deep in the water except one - Laura Turner. In short, Laura is accused of being on her knees to make the flood waters look worse.

The most striking point here is how the SES urged people not to go into the flood waters because it was dangerous. I'd discuss the problems with Channel 7 and their "news" but I would go on for a while, so I won't yet, but I digress...

Back on topic, don't just think that Channel 9 turns advertising into news, because both Channels Ten and Seven have done the same thing. It's the reason why I don't watch TV for news anymore - it's all about making money and making us buy things we don't need, or in case make us watch stupid shows about stupid people.

Problem: There are too many news programs, and for them to fill news slots up, things must either be made out to be worse than there are (i.e the floods), dragged out so that the news day is easier to manage (i.e Jessica Watson and her yacht) or they are filled with nonsensical fluff stories like that wedding between Kate and William.

Also, Peter Overton needs to be kicked. Nothing is worse than an up-himself news anchor.

Seems a fair bit scary when you think about. Would our "World Powers" and their "World Leaders" abide by sanctions declared by the United Nations in regards to nuclear war if things got more than just heated?

Looks like little Kimy in North Korea isn't playing by the rules - no, there hasn't been any nuclear attacks, but WW1 started with the assassination of a single man - Two South Korean Marines and two civilians died when North Korea sent 50 shells flying over the border to Yeonpyeong, dozens have been injured and that little island is looking a little worse for wear. Accident or not, this assertion of power is not needed, nor is it needed to be demonstrated with such brutality - seems like the sort of thing you'd expect someone to retaliate to. The "You hit me, I'll hit you harder" mentality is seeping through the seams at the moment.

The Trigger?

South Korea has threatened missile strikes if the problem escalates. The US has begun backing up South Korea and China has essentially stated that it supports North Korea (no surprises there). The official word from the North Korean Media, (so Kim Yong Ill himself and his office) is that South Korean ships crossed the border - So why wouldn't they order the ships to leave? Perhaps fire warning shots? Why fire on an island with innocent civillians? Is there something else out of the picture?

Of course there is more than just the one side to this story. Media from both nations is hazy at best and should be read in the same way.

For two countries that are technically still at war, it's a little hard to imagine that there will be peace in the world. We've got rockets firing between the borders there, people dying in the middle-east, the diamond wars in Africa....every time we hear about this kind of thing, we just get angry. How can there be peace if there is so much violence in world?

Angry Rant #10: So where's that R-rating for Video Games?

Four Words: The Australian Christian Lobby.

It seems that they're at it again - trying to stop the rest of the population from doing what they want to do. This time, they're still not moving on the R-rating classification for video games. It's not enough for them to have a mostly Christian Government at their every beck and call, but force us to live by the bible - because they think it's it the right thing to do. (Being a good person should be logical and should not come from a book that was written thousands of years ago...and people say we have advanced as a race. Technologically, yes. Morally? Nope. But I digress)

Morality: It should come from here.

This R-rating issue needs to be put through quickly. Not only is it idiotic, but it forces violent video games into the MA15+ category - something of which I don't agree with. I was trying to avoid using the cliched "look-at-what's-in-Australia-already" line, but it's difficult to avoid. GTAIV should not be in that MA category, along with games like MOH and COD. They should be in the R-rated category - I support this idea entirely.

The thing that pisses me off the most is the naivety of some people, in this case the ACL. They can say that the country will become more obsessed with violence, and that it will make it easier for kids to get their hands on violent videogames - yet I know kids under the age of 14 who play GTAIV. If there was an R-rating, it would make it harder for children to get their hands on it. How Modern Warfare 2 got released as an MA15+ title STILL amazes me. Every time I see that infamous Airport level, I think "how could there not be an R-rating?"

Is the ACL happy that this got into a LOWER rating category?

They currently have an online petition that you can sign up to so that you can directly email your local government rep, or directly to the Minister of Home affairs, Brendan O'connor. Whether it changes things is another thing entirely, but here's hoping!

I don't understand the ACL's point of view, that being if there was a R-rating category, more violent games would reach our shores. Really? More violent then slaughtering hundreds of innocent people in an airport with the MA rating letting kids get to it easier? Yeah, you can tell they're using their...

Angry Rant #9: Penrith and it's Plaza

So, we leave the cinema and make our way towards the exit, only to find that we have to wait in ANOTHER line for the next 20mins....

This is what I found myself thinking after watching the latest installment of a film that has some guy with glasses on in it. Unfortunately those bastards in charge of "The Plaza" expected people to pay $5 for parking after the movie. Even not paying and trying to escape by ghosting another car failed because the timers where so fast.

Boom Gates - they have their ups and downs.

After the failed attempts to find another pay station, we gave up and headed back to the cinema, meeting a bunch of people who tried and failed as we did - a look of disgust also on their faces.

I very much dislike losing to the establishment and it appears that I am not the only one.

Disclaimer: I have read books 1-4 and about 1/4 of the way through the 5th one ONLY.

I used to be a massive fan of Harry Potter - I'm not going to lie. I read the first four with a level of enjoyment that I hadn't got from any other book. Then I arrived at book 5 - The Order of The Phoenix. I tried to finish it - I struggled to read it. There was something that was present in this book that wasn't in the other ones. The idea didn't hit me until I picked it up today after all the fuss about Deathly Hallows and began the quest to finish it. What I've come to realise is that this may just be the best book of the lot!

The reason it flew over my head when I tried to read it when I was younger was the fact that the book is overladen with political messages and the balance between those that are in control and those who stand up against the establishment.

Of all the books, so far, this is one that I think closely reflects the society we live in - A society controlled by the rich and powerful - where money and power work their evil ways around the globe. Where the mass media and mass opinion are on sale to the highest bidder and are used to manipulate and distort reality. Read Order of the Phoenix if you haven't yet, it's not as bad as what I remember, and it's better to read with a new mindset.

After many a year studying the hell out of the original prequels I have come to the realisation that they are aren't bad movies - but I must explain - a bad movie needs to have a bad story, bad characters, bad acting, bad everything really. When I watch Episode 1, 2 and 3, I don't see a terrible story, I see no story. I don't see actors, I see robots. I don't see a script, I see random words thrown together in no particular order. I don't see bad acting, I see a dodgy version of Team America. How can it be a bad movie when it technically isn't a movie. Saying that they're bad movies is giving them way too much credit.

Unfortunately, the stupid rabbit lived through this.

What I have come to appreciate is that films nowadays, especially your big-budget "blockbusters" use CGI and other digital technology to manipulate audiences into thinking that the movie is good, when the only thing that they're doing is covering up the the fact that there is no story. *cough cough* Avatar * cough cough*

Avatar sucked. Visually, it was like having eye-sex, but in terms of story, it will go down in history as one of the worst story lines ever...obviously after Star Wars: Ep 1 & 2 - nothing beats that filth.

Lucas could have avoided the whole list of problems with the prequels if he had just hired a decent screenwriter to make sense of his nonsense. Things like this would have been avoided:

Why would Qui-Gon Jinn cheat in a bet to get the parts for the ship in Ep 1? Why not just come back at night and steal it? He can cheat, but stealing is wrong?
How does the sheild generator get hit on the Naboo ship if the sheild is up?
Why did Qui-Gon Save Jar-Jar Binks from the federation ships on Naboo? (How I wish he died there)
Why is Qui-Gon there? Just in general - He doesn't do anything except talk to Anakin about mediclorians and then he dies - An idiotic character like Jar Jar could have done that.
Why did Padme's decoy say that she "failed" Padme at the start of Ep 2. Isn't that what a decoy is supposed to do? Risk their lives for the person they're protecting? - I think she took that explosion pretty well.
Why did they ruin Yoda?
Why can't Padme fall in love? How is being a senator an excuse?
What the hell is a mediclorian? The force is microscopic germs now?
Why didn't Bobba Fett just kill Padme at the start of Ep 2, instead of hiring someone to plant poisonous worms in her room. We already know that Padme isn't immune to explosions, *hint hint.*

It seems that the great Australian Qantas is failing. Why? Because work has been forced overseas, and outsourced to countries in Asia (By the way, there is no word for 'Asia' in any Asian language because it, in it's entirety, is a Western concept, but I digress.)

Cheap Labour = Shoddy Work. It's really a no brainer, and we really shouldn't be surprised. However most people are because they don't know that the work/repairs/services are done overseas. Why is this aimed at Qantas? I could bet any amount of money that this happens to EVERY airline. Planes are large pieces of metal that fly through the sky at insane speeds and through varying temperatures - of course things are going to fuck up from time to time, that's a given. But why all the attention on Qantas? I have brainstormed some ideas below:

Someone sleep with the wrong person?
Didn't get the right sandwich?
Nuts too salty?
James Murdoch got turned down by an attractive air hostess?

Too much salt can drive anyone nuts.

Whatever the problem is, it better come into the light. I had a pretty shocking experience with Virgin Blue and with Jet Star but that went unnoticed. Perhaps the reason is just that - maybe there is a vendetta against Qantas by the Australian Media. Maybe they're trying to bring Qantas back here. Seems reasonable.

But then I remembered.

Who the hell cares about Kate Middleton and Prince William? Any person who says that they "good" because they donate to charity is simply stupid - The Royal family is just that. Royal.

Lots of Money. You'd expect that - the people who work their butts off with 3 children, a mortgage and still donate to children in poverty stricken countries, in natural disaster zones, and in war-torn countries are the real heros.

Although Princess Diana did a whole lot for AIDS awareness in Africa, I very doubt the Royals now will do such a thing now.

And to Channel 10 News - 15 mins of "news" on their engagement? 15 worthless minutes on something that most people couldn't give a shit about? This is newsworthy?

So apparently Aboriginal people aren't recognised in the Federal Constitution in Australia. A friend has told me that the states do recognise Aboriginals, but at a Federal level in the Commonwealth Constitution, they are not.

But the thing that pissed me off was how they said it - Our idiotic PM just brushed it off so lightly as if it were nothing. Then we've got those idiotic US representatives spouting garbage about 'being ourselves and everything's gonna be alright'. THEN we've got people getting interviewed because they were "selected" for Oprah's show. Instead of wasting all that money (and you know she's going to be giving away free stuff) on pointless materialistic goods, she could be helping a place like...I dunno...AFRICA. Why waste time here? Why waste money? Why let the stupid state government piss more money up against the wall when our roads/hospitals/schools are an absolute disgrace. I am really annoyed right now.

Angry Rant #3: To Smartphone or not to Smartphone.

So, a friend of mine has convinced me that the HTC desire is probably one of the best, if not the best smart phone on the market - If I were to ever buy one that is.

The idea of having everything in one handy, portable little device seems like a good idea. Being able to play music, record video, fuck around on the internet etc, seems like fun, until one the following occurs:

1: You leave it at home.
2: You leave it somewhere other than home.
3: You leave it in New Zealand after a holiday.
4: You play basketball with it.
5: You think your blender will wuss out.
6: You leave it under the back tyre of your car.
7: You play chicken with a sledge hammer.
8: You decide that it's so powerful that it will defy gravity.
9: Karma.
10: The battery dies and you can't change it.

Should it be in my pocket or in here?

Apart from all those things, I'd defiantly buy one.

Somehow I forced myself to watch THAT episode of Packed to the Rafters...for five seconds before I turned it over. It seems that I did the right thing, seeing as though I would have cringed to death at the sight of yet another car accident where someone has died. Mel, one of the characters, gets married then dies in a car accident. If you think you're having a case of de ja vu, you're not the only one. I have lost count of the amount of times these Aussie shows have used car accidents as a way of killing a character off - Neighbours has been doing that shit for years!!

Angry Rant #1: Speeding Kills?

Recently a friend of mine got sent a letter by the RTA stating that they had been caught speeding. Not only did they think that this was a total load of bullshit, but they knew they weren't due to the fact that they was staring at my speedometer as they was driving past the camera. SEE. Therein lies the problem -

IF EVERYONE IS LOOKING AT THE SPEEDOS, HOW ARE THEY MAKING IT SAFER FOR DRIVERS?

Fact of the matter is that it isn't. People think that we get it tough here in New South Wales, but Victoria is speed camera central of World - of the World. The death toll in Victoria has actually RISEN in the past 5 years compared to the toll here in NSW. Of course population, driving conditions etc etc all come into play, but if everyone is not looking at the road, how safe could it possibly be? The State Government tells you that it's safer - but it's not.

These newly placed "safety cameras" are nothing but blatant revenue raising for both (yes BOTH) the state governments and the private operators who control them. The private operators will be getting more funding, depending on the number of cars they pinch. In QLD now, the tolerance level is being reduced, so expect a fine in the mail if you're 2 or 3km/h over the limit.

Don't believe what the government says - they don't care about your well being - they only care about the money that goes into their pocket at the end of day.
